Kumamon – this cute mascot is widely loved in Japan.

Kumamon was born as the mascot character of Kumamoto, Japan. His name comes from a combination of Kumamoto and kuma (bear), and also “mon” which doesn’t carry any meaning in this context but surely adds some cute sound in Japanese.

Loose characters called “yuru kyara” like Kumamon has become popular in Japan and some local governments decided to use yuru kyara as their official characters for their promotion activities. Among all yuru kyara, Kumamon is the most popular one.

He now even has this catchy theme song. I hope you’ll enjoy this Kumamon music video. It’s very kawaii.
